Signal Fact 79
British Railways first installation of a lifting barrier was at Warthill on the now closed line (NE213) from Bootham Junction (York) to Market Weighton. The barriers spanned the entire road width and were manually operated by a gate wheel in the signal box. It was commissioned on 23 September 1952.
